  • 2012 | Best Dance Performance of the Past 12 Months

Zenon Dance Company's members are damn good dancers who draw inspiration from the wide range of nationally recognized choreographers artistic director Linda Andrews brings into their studio. The most recent example is Daniel Charon, a New York-based choreographer with roots in Moorhead, Minnesota. His raucous Storm premiered during Zenon's November 2011 program at the Cowles Center, and the dancers rose to the challenge, taking physical and emotional risks with the high-flying movement... • 2011 | Best Dance Company

Founded nearly 30 years ago by Linda Andrews, Zenon Dance Company has rightfully earned its place as a Twin Cities institution, with a national reputation for matching its own versatile dancers to a wide range of contemporary dance and jazz choreographers. The troupe's recent fall concert at the Southern Theater showed that Andrews continues to seek out some of the most original artists making dance today, including New York's luciana achugar and Andrea Miller, while local choreographers... • 2010 | BEST PLACE TO LEARN TO DANCE

Gotta get your groove on but don't have the moves Help is available on the fourth floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts. Zenon Dance Company and School trains dancers of all ages and skill levels, and while the classes are a good value (individual rates start below $15, and class cards or package deals are available), the best reason to visit the studio is the fine faculty. Its modern-dance teachers include Sage Award winners Erin Thompson and ARENA Dances artistic director Mathew... More »

Dance schools sometimes get a bad rap. Sequined leotards and recitals set to pop songs may be a valid way to inspire a love of movement, but they don't always lead to serious study of an art form that has many means of expression and a rich history. Zenon Dance School approaches dance education with a bit more depth, offering seasoned teachers, focused workshops, a non-intimidating atmosphere, and a host of classes--and comfortable dance clothes are welcome. No wonder the bright studios... More »

  • 2007 | BEST PLACE TO LEARN TO DANCE

If you go to local hip-hop shows, you might have noticed something new in recent months: an influx of younger b-girls--not entirely polished, but unmistakably schooled. Ask these confident beginners where they learned to pop, lock, and body rock, and they'll invariably tell you: "Zenon." Founded in 1983 by Linda Z. Andrews, the renowned Minneapolis-based dance company and school offers a wide array of classes: modern, jazz, ballet, tap, yoga, belly dancing, Pilates, African, improv, and... More »

Dance schools sometimes get a bad rap. Sequined leotards and recitals set to pop songs may be a valid way to inspire a love of movement, but they don't always lead to serious study of an art form that has many means of expression and a rich history. Zenon Dance School approaches dance education with a bit more depth, offering seasoned teachers, focused workshops, a non-intimidating atmosphere, and a host of classes—and comfortable dance clothes are welcome. No wonder the bright studios are filled with a cross section of Twin Citians, from the corporate lawyer working off stress in beginning level to the professional dancer taking an advanced class with her peers. The schedule is full of options for all ages—ballet, modern dance, contact improvisation, hip hop, break dancing, African, belly dancing, and yoga—and the prices are reasonable (single classes range from $11 to $13, 10-week enrollments run up to $110, and for $500 you can have unlimited classes, also for 10 weeks). The faculty includes some of the area's top movers, and some classes have live accompaniment, enriching the learning experience.
