Zengo is the best of Richard Sandoval's Denver restaurants (which include Tamayo and La Sandia), a shockingly smart and original fusion of Mexican flavors with Asian presentations and French technique. From the seared-prawn tiraditos and hamachi with shiso, soy and pickled papaya to arepas de puerco with hoisin-jacked pulled pork, Zengo's dishes are not just odd amalgamations of flavors and styles, but honestly innovative and sensible fusions. The room is beautiful, and while the nightclub vibe can be distracting, the food is the star of this show.

Everything is great! XO edamame (bacon and shrimp).Give and take salad. Wonton tacos. Never had a bad meal here.
How can you go wrong with South American & Japanese fusion?
The best dessert I have ever had, and there are a lot, was from Zengo it was served in a carved out coconut shell had rice pudding inside with coconut milk and mango, topped with crystalized sugar..to die for. Now my favorite is the Edamame served XO style..this does contain oyster paste so if you are allergic to shellfish as my girlfriend from NY Heather is, DO NOT proceed. Sorry Heather! teh Sangria is fabulous too!
There was a moment there, right around 2004, when it seemed like Latino-Asian fusion would be the Next Big Thing. And Denver was on the cutting edge, because international restaurateur Richard Sandoval introduced it first at Zengo. But just as Zengo was hitting its stride, the rest of the restaurant world was turning back toward an embrace of purity, sustainability and locals-only utopianism. And still, as a monolith to the end of a culinary era, Zengo works. It looks like a nightclub, feels... More »
Give and take, back and forth, yin and yang -- Zengo's menu, concept and even its design are structured around the idea of taking something good and pairing it, topping it or mashing it together with something even better. Technically, Zengo bills itself as a Latino-Asian fusion restaurant -- which is strange enough -- but what it really does is take the entire fusion gestalt and push it to its logical conclusion. There's sushi on this menu, but the sushi is a fusion of classical Japanese... More »
Conventional wisdom says that fifty dollars is about the max Colorado diners are willing to spend on a non-destination dinner for two. Birthdays, anniversaries, Flag Day -- at those times, people are willing to part with a little more green, and there are a lot of restaurants willing to take that cash. But say you've got a really special occasion on your hands, something deserving of an unparalleled blowout -- like beating the rap on that corporate embezzlement charge, or being elected... More »
We know that Zengo is not so much a seafood restaurant as a restaurant that happens to serve seafood in addition to a lot of other things. But that doesn't matter. When you're after great fish, nobody handles the creatures of the briny deep quite like this kitchen -- and with a Latino-Asian twist, at that. Whether you order an antojito of tuna cut into perfect slabs and served with a ponzu sauce, a crisp and bitingly fresh ceviche, an entree of whole grouper dusted in ancho chile powder or... More »
The brand-spanking-new Zengo is so big, so opulent, that we've just started to take it all in -- from the retro-hip decor to the exotic cocktails to the extra-squishy bar stools from which you can appreciate those cocktails. The menu is expansive, so yin-and-yangy that it demands study. Meditation, even. So we've started small, dropping by for a quick meal of sake and the best unexpected fried rice in town. As with everything else about the restaurant, care has been taken with each little... More »
