Splashy, sexy, and great service are the watchwords at downtown's glitziest contemporary Italian joint. Recommended dishes? Skip the big entrées, which tend to be too crowd-pleasing with their reliance on the sweet and the salty, and focus on the other offerings--foremost the affettato misto an appetizer platter brimming with Italian hams, salamis, cheeses, olives, salads, and a very good bruschetta. Or the wood-roasted mussels; the light, zingy caesar salad; and the show-stopping dessert sample platter, crowned with the best tiramisu in town, an ethereal little tower made of light sponge cake soaked with coffee and Marsala and layered with rich mascarpone. Lunches are value-priced and popular; reservations are recommended.
Awesome all around...fine dining, great service, great salmon. Cozy, beautiful, classy & romantic.
My husband and I shared a gigantic piece of carrot cake from Zelo. It was wonderful and had fresh nutmeg grated on top. They don't always have it but it is worth it when they do!
Esthetically pleasing, food is ok, love the stuffed olives.

Two words for you, appetizer fiends: affettato misto, Zelo's fully loaded mixed appetizer plate ($16.95) for two or more. Or actually, let's not even call it an appetizer plate: It's really an appetizer landscape. Outstanding features of that landscape include a bay of high-quality, classic antipasto meats like prosciutto and salami; an inlet of first-rate cheeses and olives; half a dozen islands of variously topped bruschettas; a mountain of fresh vegetables alongside a waterfall of... Service in the Twin Cities has gone to hell in a handbasket these last couple of years, the tight job market and, dare we say, restaurateurs' unwillingness or inability to seriously ratchet up pay seemingly leaving service positions filled by only the surly, the suspicious, the arrogant, the diffident, and those preoccupied by an imminent nervous breakdown. Except at Zelo (and sister eatery Ciao Bella), where the staff comprises some of the nicest people we've ever been around--and not just... More »
