Sometimes, British-themed pubs exist primarily for drinking and listening to live music, not so much for the dining experience. Olde Falcon isn't one of those, even though their 50-odd strong draft beer list is the main draw. On one hand, the Falcon Pub is stereotypical: dark-wood-paneled interior, sports on the TVs. The music is cranked up loud, and the clientele are usually young folks watching a game and knocking back some good brew. But the kitchen is way above average, with a smattering of American favorites (pot roast, etc.) nestled between the standard bangers and mash and shepherd's pie. On your first visit, make sure to get the fish and chips - it's a standout. Some of the items you have to know about and ask for (like duck tenders with delicious orange sauce). Hit those puppies with a pint of Dead Guy Ale or Fuller's ESB (or a peach lambic if you're feeling extra-fruity) and feed your epicurean frenzy.

Davie's South University Drive is a textbook case of suburban cheesiness. Drive around here at night and (if not for the palm trees) you could just as well be cruising the strip-mall labyrinth of Pawtucket, Prescott, or Peoria. Even inside the nondescript Olde Falcon Pub, there's nothing that jumps out and shouts, "Hey, you're in Davie!" the way a saddle shop or, you know, a calf-branding class does. But Old Falcon pulls some of the best pints in town, highlighting a mind-blowing assortment... More »
Admittedly, a British pub is not the first place you'd look when seeking out good chili. You'd expect to find it at someplace called Big Ed's Bean Bonanza or maybe the Lone Star Bar and Grill. But the Brits put on a surprising show at Ye Olde Falcon Pub. A bowl of chili at the pub (which also has a decent beer selection) comes steaming hot and in large quantities, the way chili ought to be. It's lip-smackin' spiciness could make a good ol' Texas boy pull his guns and shoot out the lights --... More »
The mood is never the same: One minute you have some raving headbanger still stuck in '80s metal straining every vocal chord to belt out an Iron Maiden song, only to be followed three minutes later by a housewife gently whispering Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me." Or maybe the Motown Man goes after those high notes in a Jackson 5 or Smokey Robinson song. Then there's the blonde who does her weekly tribute to Britney Spears, and Italian Joe, with his heartfelt take on Sinatra. For... More »
