Sushi's the thing at this restaurant in the basement of Washington Irving's crib. The pieces of salmon, yellowtail, and tuna flop luxuriantly over well-made lozenges of rice, glistening with freshness; but watch out for the sashimi and chirashi-the fillets are so big, it's difficult to manage them with chopsticks. Other Japanese fare is generally unremarkable, except for items on the specials menu, such as a recently sampled nori roll made with soba, crab leg, and avocado. The noodles protruding from the end of each slice were deep-fried to Medusa-like effect.
