For all practical purposes Yaffa is an East Village diner: it's "open always," pretty cheap, and has pleasant wait staff. Unlike a diner, though, if you forge through the dark and intimate dining room, you find a vast and nearly charming garden deck. The menu's expansive, but you won't find grilled cheese. Instead, there's an array of Middle Eastern vegetarian stir-fry fare. Your best bet's sticking with the appetizers-the hummus-tahini plate's good for a meal. And, as with any good diner, there's pie for dessert-key lime wins, with the apple-walnut-sour cream coming in a close second.
