It’s obvious from the outside that Ya Hala is not going to be a white-tablecloth kind of place. But that’s okay, because what’s on offer here is the honest article: Syrian food done traditionally and with surprising talent. From the free pita and hummus to the perfect grilled chicken and unbelievably good baklava, everything is a treat for both the adventurous eater and his wallet.

  • 2007 | Best Middle Eastern Restaurant

The space is small and more than a little ragged. The service runs at a pace somewhere between slow-but-friendly and glacial. And the menu seems oddly foreshortened. But at Ya Hala, all that matters is the food -- and the food is absolutely... More >

  • A Noble Bird

By Jason Sheehan | Thu, November 02, 2006

While writing my review of Ya Hala (see page 47), I actually stopped halfway through and headed back to Colorado Boulevard to pick up a couple to-go orders of the unbelievably addictive baklava, because I only had a half-order at home and I knew t... More >

  • Baklava for More

By Jason Sheehan | Thu, November 02, 2006

I've been a fan of Ya Hala since it opened more than a year ago. I liked it when it was still just an ugly, stained cement bunker with the (often inaccurate) hours painted on its back; when I would drive by and see bums sprawled in the little half... More >
