CLOSED The W Hotel's sleek, sexy Van Der Mies skyscraper of a restaurant features soaring ceilings, all-enclosing velour booths, and a protofuturistic deadpan-glam sort of vibe. The bill of fare is organic-sustainable California cuisine draped in quinoa, lacinato, black barley, and the like, with a stellar lineup of decadent desserts. From sickle to swizzle stick, the cocktails on the eco-licious menu take the role of a salad, or vice versa. One drink - made with heirloom tomatoes, Corzo Reposado tequila, fresh basil, and salt, and reminiscent of a cranked down, polished Bloody Mary - is so savory that it's almost meaty. Further botanically-edgy drinks make use of jalapeño with red Cara Cara oranges, fresh pear with ginger liqueur, or fig jam with orange bitters.
