Descended from a food stall in the Golden Mall in Flushing, Xi'an Famous Foods replicates noodle and lamb dishes from the province of Shaanxi, where chili oil and Asian cumin are the predominant flavors, and noodles are often sluiced with a toasted-sesame tahini, as well. The wheat-flour noodles are made as you watch by a fascinating pinching and pulling process, resulting in thick noodles of varying width. Innovatively, this small stall offers color photos of all the offerings, which is a boon to getting exactly what you want. My current fave is D2, which includes noodles, chili oil, lamb, and Sichuan peppercorns for a prodigious burn. For vegetarians, A1--cold Liang Pi noodles with dark soy and intriguing boxcars of spongy gluten.

"what is a lamb treasure?" that is one of the most frequently asked questions. our general response is: "it is mr. lamb's treasures, " or, "mr. lamb only has two of these treasures." if you cannot figure out what it is by now, you probably should stick with the lamb meat soup. however, if you are quiet the offalmeister, this soup is flavorful and full of nutrients.

if you have been to xi'an and been around the best food spots, you will most definitely have seen people eating lamb meat soup with pieces of hard bread in it. while purists would criticize us for cutting the bread into pieces before serving with the soup, we do offer to provide you with a piece of bread to tear up for yourself if you want the true xi'an experience! $6.00 to $7.00

Pork "Zha Jiang" Hand-Ripped Noodles
"zha jiang mian" is the actual name of this noodle dish. "zha jiang" refers to the pork with soy sauce that is used in these noodles. the sauce is savory with a bit of sweetness to it. it is served in many northern parts of china, as well as in korea (though there are definitely variations in taste). $5.50 to $6.00
