The restaurant brings in its sausages from artisanal butchers instead of making them in-house, which theoretically leads to flexibility, and the toppings are customizable only insofar as you have the choice of sauteed hot peppers, sauteed sweet peppers or sauerkraut to put with the grilled onions on top of your sandwich. The PETA crowd can get veggie bratwursts, kielbasas or Italian links, the sausage-joint equivalent of the Landlubbers' Platter that used to be on the menu of seafood restaurants, and for the abstemious there is dandelion & burdock, a soft drink reputed to have first been concocted by St. Thomas Aquinas, with the anisey herbal complexity of an obscure monastery liqueur. If you've ever had a hankering to eat rattlesnake-and-rabbit sausage off a coffin-shaped table in a warehouse-chic space, then wash it down with dandelion soda, you're in luck. Located in the heart of downtown's Arts District, Wurstküche is a... More »

Come for the brats...stay for the fries! When my boyfriend asks if I want to go out to dinner somewhere, I almost always says "Wurstkuche!" It's perfect for a first date or a one-hundred-and-first date.
As you wait in line to order your food/biers you can peruse the menu and decide what looks tasty. The best part about this is you can order a drink in line and they bring it to you straightaway! The boyfriend and I usually get 3 brats; 1 for each of us and then one to share. Go for the exotic ones, because you will not regret it. The Rabbit, Veal and Pork is my favorite.
And the fries...oh lord, the fries! Double dipped Belgian fries that WILL change your life. And the dipping sauces to go with it. Get an extra Chipotle Aioli, trust me.
The dining room is always crowded, but I have never had trouble snagging a table. The music is always going, making it feel like a party.
Pro tip: You can buy uncooked sausages and take them home to cook!
This is snausage heaven. It's located in the lovely and barren (the usual hunt for street parking) Art District of Downtown LA. Order your food in line and wait for it to be served to your table. The service is efficient and abrupt. There is also a DJ set up which means some dance and indie beats for ya'll to enjoy while you munch on your juicy and tasty weiners. Yah, I know - you're sold.
Tip: Try the exotic sausages even if it's your first time here. You won't be disappointed.
Wurstkuche is my go-to place for a lot of occasions - late night dining, showing out of towners around, beer sampling, JUST GOOD FOOD and ... honestly, ANY occasion is fitting. I love their late hours and most importantly, they are a supporter of Los Angeles' very own KCRW. This means they are part of KCRW's Fringe Benefit merchants. With the Fringe membership, you get to have 15% taken off your entire bill just for supporting KCRW. I use my card EVERY TIME I come here.
Their dogs/sausages are delicious but my favorite are their Belgian fries - perfectly seasoned and crisp with yummy dipping sauces (ketchup curry or bacon walnut!). My sausage of choice, and one of their most popular, is the rattlesnake and rabbit. You can't go wrong with that!
Beer loves - they serve Delirium beer. Need I say more? My all time favorite dine and hang out spot!
