It’s summer in Miami. It’s about 105 degrees out, you have sweat stains on your new Prada blouse, and your hair makes you look like Bozo’s illegitimate love child. But enough with the whine — it’s time to wine! The Federal Food Drink & Provisions (5132 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) invites you to grab a bunch of girlfriends and enjoy an afternoon of nonjudgmental wine tasting paired with snacks at the next Women Who Wine series, Saturday at 4:30 p.m. A cost of $35, excluding tax and gratuity, gets you a welcome cocktail followed by a five-wine tasting and snacks perfect for pairing. The two-hour session is hosted by the Federal’s Alejandro Ortiz, who serves as wine mentor, comedian, and eye candy for the session, which promises to be a friendly, informative, yet completely unsnobby afternoon of wine among friends. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about wine, and don’t expect to be bored to tears by an in-depth discussion of the DNA of each grape. Instead, you’ll take home information you can use, such as which inexpensive California sparkling wine can rival more expensive French champagnes in taste, which wines go best with barbecue, and most important, which wines are best for pounding on a hot summer day. (Hint: Choose wines that are light and bright, with high acidity and citrus notes.) Our suggestion: Spread some gel on that nest growing on your head, throw on a fresh T-shirt, stop whining, and start wining.
