Though the address would indicate this spot is located in North Scottsdale, its rock 'n' roll feel and eclectic digs make it feel like some bohemian bar in Brooklyn or elsewhere. The Wok Star, which moved to its current location after a 2011 fire and other tumultuous circumstances forced from its former home, features walls covered with gig posters, broken guitars, dented cymbals, album covers, paper lanterns, and other odd ephemera. Owned by local rocker Jamie Mather (of Blanche Davidian fame), the place still has the same funky thrift-store décor, as well as more of youngish patronage that comes to sips spirits and troubadours strum up a storm at one end of the bar during the Thursday night open mic session. Behind the cement bar, covered with seashells and handprints, the drink-slingers offer dozens of beers on tap (and even more available by the bottle) as well as plenty of other alcoholic delights. When tummies start rumbling head for some egg rolls or other Sino snackings at the adjacent Chinese food joint Chop and Wok.
