Wing Commander has won hordes of loyal fans not just for its namesake morsels of spicy chicken but also for its fair prices and friendly attitude. Many currently rolling food trucks serve fare at prices comparable to those of midrange restaurants. But this early staple of the local mobile food scene is financially friendly toward large, hungry families; eight wings cost $7 and come with a choice of hot, Caribbean, barbecue, "sweet and tangy," or mild sauce. On top of that, even when lines get long and things get hairy, Wing Commander always offers service with a smile. It's not just wings aboard the truck, though. Chicken also comes in fried strip form (five for $6) with the same selection of sauces. And burger lovers can get three sliders for $6 with an unlimited choice of those same wing sauces, various cheeses, and other hefty toppings such as caramelized onions or bacon. Another version of sliders for the same price comes dripping with slow-roasted, bourbon-marinated pork. There are also chili ($4) and crab($5) soups, but no visit to the Commander is complete without a taste of the addictive "chippies" ($3). The crisp, substantial snacks are billed as a half-chip, half-fry combination that comes smothered in either chili and cheddar sauce, wing sauce and blue cheese, or bacon, onion, and Swiss cheese.
