Wimpy's III is a proper dive-diner in Washington Heights. The flat top cooks at this unassuming, uptown hole in the wall can put most aluminum-and-neon joints to shame. Wimpy's is cheap as can be--plus there's a breakfast special before 11. Wimpy's does good pancakes and French toast, but the huge omelette platters are really just a heaping mess of griddled perfection. Like any diner worth its salt, Wimpy's has all sorts of food on the menu: hot and cold deli sandwiches, spaghetti and meat balls, pizza, the obligatory gyro, and even tacos and burritos. However, it's the burger that shines--nothing fancy, just a well-cooked seven ounce patty. There are a few two-top tables for those in need of a place to scarf down a meal, but Wimpy's is ideal for takeout and often praised for swift delivery. Wimpy's doesn't stay open super late, but the exceptional quality of the breakfast foods means it's more of a place to start the day than end it.
