Description

Celebrity chef Todd English seems to have set his sights on South Florida, opening four restaurants here in the span of a year with no signs of stopping. His Wild Olives is a take on his premier Boston restaurant, Olives, where English earned his fame. It features rustic Mediterranean dishes, seafood, flatbread pizzas, and pasta. Much of it is overembellished and features either too little flavor (Boston Bibb salad) or too much (flatbread with fig, prosciutto, rosemary, and blue cheese). But some dishes, like asparagus frittes and oddly shaped cavatelli pasta, are rustic and tasty. The space is well-designed, with a tall back-lit bar and beige tones interrupted by stark white columns. The service is spotty and stuffy. Reservations are highly recommended.

    I was a bit hesitant giving Wild Olives a shot because I had been let down by a couple other Todd English restaurants that seemed to have been slipping a bit lately, but this place lives up to his culinary reputation. The Prosciutto & Fig flatbread was to die for and the Spaghetti Polpetinni was delicious. Todd's meatballs are some of the best I've ever experienced! Service was good but it was technically during their grand opening so I chalked up any hiccups to a new staff learning the ropes. The dinner ended with "Todd's signature ricotta cheesecake" which was so light and craveable. Drinks were cold... a win-win!
