Walking down Knox Street past the behemoth Apple store, you can’t miss Wild About Harry’s, bedecked as it is in neon signs and paintings of creepy hot-dog men. The inside feels like a classic soda fountain, albeit more Saved By the Bell than Happy Days — think black and white tile and primary colors. Besides an array of hot dogs, Harry’s is also known for frozen custard, an egg-rich ice cream that’s superbly smooth, creamy and dense. In addition to the standard chocolate and vanilla, rotating flavors might include cookies ‘n’ cream, mango or toffee crunch. A generously sized single scoop with a topping — think sprinkles, candy or hot fudge — will run you less than four bucks. If you need something that can be consumed one-handed, the thick, rich milkshakes are killer.

Harry's has had it going on since 1996. Truth be told, his mom had it before that, since it's her stellar recipe that makes possible the creamiest frozen custard ever to pass our lips. The shop makes custard daily, changing up flavors while keeping favorites like chocolate, strawberry, etc. It's probably safe to claim that if they've made it, we've tried it, and rarely have we been disappointed. Don't worry if a particular flavor doesn't appear on the day's list. Almost all flavors Harry's... More »
Founder Harry Coley isn't about to give up the secret ingredients passed down by his mother. Suffice it to say he's been whipping up his rich, creamy and mouth-watering custards since 1996, using more egg yolks than any recipe you've ever heard of. On the rotating menu are 48 flavors with eight specialties of the day, from the standard vanilla and chocolate to peanut butter, peppermint, green tea and Kahlua. Don't be surprised if you have to stand in a line that stretches outside the door;... More »
