Like it or not, in a country of melting-pot mongrels, the dislocating immigrant experience is part of our cultural DNA. So it is no surprise that p...
Preshow snow and steaming cups of spiced apple cider in the lobby are only the beginning of the frivolous fun at the 12th annual production of this gleefully goofy holiday comedy. The brainchild of brothers Shaun and Brandon Loeser, this all-guy... More »
“Steamy” I recommend watching Love Sex and Violence Too (or maybe false advertising) at the Whitefire…because it is the perfect thing to do on a Sunday afternoon, wonderfully written by Helena Weltman and directed by Pavel Cerny. The first act opened the show perfectly, preparing us for both heartache and comedy. A nerdy young man takes a cute little redheaded girl home with him from a local coffee shop, then makes a sorry attempt to sleep with her. Allan Yates was simply superb and Olivia Peritore delicately makes us laugh and cry, these two took the stage BEAUTIFULLY. Does Helena write them in bed together? You’ll find out if you watch the show ! If there is nothing here you can relate to, maybe the next act involving a husband and wife will resonate with you. Joshua Grenrock was a dominating force, bitterly confronting issues of the heart with his wife (Lisa-Beth Harris) who desperately wants to get home after putting in exhausting hours to her newly published bakery book, these two had AMAZING chemistry together, GREAT casting! Uh oh! The Elevator breaks down with a BOMBSHELL BLONDE and a MARRIED MAN inside! Desi Javon and Adrian Lee Borden provide some comic relief as the pair get to know each other a little. If you want to see what Helena has comically concocted for these two would be lovers, I suggest again, that you go watch the show! Lacey Rae dominates and confronts her therapist, Robin Ormond in act four. Lacey did such a wonderful job that I didn’t like her much when this act was over, my heart was with Robin who in the next act steals the entire show with her heart wrenching 35 minute monologue. Bring tissue, you will cry. The show is sealed with delightful tap dancing and burgers. Ward Edmondson, Eddy Hawks and Lacey Rae lift our spirits and remind us that life is dance no matter what trials we may face, we just gotta dance through it! Eat something and then head to the Whitefire on Sunday to see some of the best actors I have ever seen take stage in Los Angeles.
