Siblings Kristin and Brendan Connor started Whisk as a catering outfit only - thus the tiny space - and then tacked on the café and takeaway venture two years ago. Some folks come to grab lunch to go, others to grab one of the 15 seats. "Good food served here" reads a sign on the window, and indeed this place is testament to how far fresh ingredients and fair value can carry a restaurant. There is no reinventing the wheel, just a one-page paper menu that is printed daily and offers things we like to eat. Generally speaking, that means fresh salads, savory sandwiches, hearty entrées, and homemade desserts. More specifically, it translates to goat cheese fritters, juicy burgers, fingerling French fries, grilled grouper sandwiches, buttermilk fried chicken, churrasco steaks, burritos, brownies, blondies, and cupcakes. The ingredients are locally sourced, often organic, and prepared with a deft touch. Sandwiches are all under $10 - our favorite being fried green tomatoes with applewood smoked bacon. Sides and apps are less than $6, entrée salads $11 to $14, and main course plates $12 to $18 (most dinner specials run a bit more). Beverages, served in mason jars, include homemade iced tea and freshly squeezed lemonade. We love this place. So do a lot of people. Expect to wait for a table.
