This is no Red Bull-fueled sports bar. With its walls the color of pool-table felt and its weathered wooden bar (with a working aquarium and three TV sets behind it), Weber's is older, classier and quieter than that. Yes, there are autographed photos of Ozzie Smith on the wall and a framed Post-Dispatch front page memorializing the Rams' Super Bowl triumph. But there's also...a field hockey stick. The menu shares the décor's slightly offbeat sense of humor: the "half-pound intermission" section lists burgers like a Murphy melt (served on sourdough with Swiss and bacon) and a Cajun-spiced Mardi Gras burger ("costumes and obnoxious behavior mandatory when ordering this specialty"). The food is plentiful and satifsying, with a few atypical sports-pub selections -- pork tenderloin, a salami-and-cheese plate, batter-dipped vegetables. A gentlemanly choice for catching the big game.

If you grew up in Webster Groves, chances are Weber's Front Row has played a part in your life at some point or another -- working in the kitchen, maybe, while Sis waited tables. Or it's where you celebrated a victory for home team, grabbed a beer after class at Webster University, or as the go-to place for to-go food when nobody feels like cooking but everybody feels like chicken wings. Mini high school reunions and block parties seem to break out with regularity here, as though the... More »
How hard is it to make a chicken wing? You just toss it in the deep fryer for a few minutes and voilà! Well, try it. You'd be surprised. Some wings don't get fried long enough and wind up with soggy skin and frozen centers. Some get fried too much and are so tough that the mere act of chewing gives your jaw a good workout. The wings at Weber's Front Row strike that precarious balance between crisp and tender, maybe because they're cooked up when you order them, instead of getting... More »

Australian-rules football, sumo wrestling, surfing, the Tour de France, bass fishing. Friggin' World Cup soccer, man! All this in addition to the standard fare of football, baseball, basketball, hockey. Weber's Front Row in Old Orchard is a sports-lover's all-you-can-eat: thirteen televisions, nothing but sport -- save one, reserved for Beth the bartender's CNN, which she deserves for having to endure this much sports talk.Decidedly a pub, Weber's doesn't boast some monster TV screen so...
