Description

As you wander through this lovely park you should know two things: about 10,000 people are buried beneath you and this may be the only place in the city where black squirrels live. Oh, and about 10,000 people are buried beneath you. Back in the day, like way back in the day (1797 anyone?), this was a municipal Potter's Field, as well as being a dueling ground and a site for public executions. Of course, it is most famous for the Washington Arch, originally hewn in wood and spanning Fifth Ave, which, in 1891, became a permanent structure at the north end of the park.

I go every year and I always have an amazing time. I can't imagine being anywhere else on New Year's besides the Central Park castle (it's beautiful), and Time's Up!'s ride there from Washington Square Park is a lot of fun. Plus, tomorrow's supposed to be pretty warm!
