Itas true a Warsaw, one of the hottest clubs in Brooklyn doubles as the Polish National Home, hosting Patti Smith one night and throwing a polka party the next a literally. Order up a z-beer, known as Zywiec to Slavic people who can speak without vowels, and take in a show in the huge ballroom. Or skip the band, walk to the other side of the venue, and for next to nothing order up a pile pierogis, kielbasa and sauerkraut, served up by a saucy middle-aged Polish woman with a penchant for leopard print. Time for another z-beer.

The old-world charm of wood paneling and home-cooked, meaty pastries was perfectly balanced in Warsaw's sharp, modern booking; Art Brut, Le Tigre, and more up-and-screeching acts graced the stage once, and, recently, Kings of Convenience and Au Revoir Simone did similarly. Warsaw is a fantastic find in the Greenpoint hustle.... More »
Every opening act in Warsaw history might as well be named Why Don't You Go Eat Some Pierogis Instead? This is a valid point. In vivid contrast to the disquietude suggested by most concert-venue food (say, wan hot dogs that seem to have been transported to the venue inside a tour bus's exhaust pipe), the fabulous Williamsburg spot, as befitting a concert venue tucked inside the Polish National Home, offers such splendid nourishment as hunters' stew, kielbasa (dwarfed betwixt two pieces of... If WARSAW is your destination, you're in luck: Between the merch tables in the side room, tasty Polish treats are for sale at prices good enough to eat, so taking a break from the huge ballroom of a main floor doesn't have to be limited to bar or bathroom. The friendly, cafeteria-style dining setup is conducive to making actual conversation, so you'll have an excuse to talk to that cute hipster across the table--even if just to tell him... More »
