There's something amazing about a place so intimate, that you can keep on eye on your food being prepared as you wait. Wafa's, run by a Lebanese woman named Waya, is just such a place. Spinach pies were hot out of the oven as we arrived, and this will always be the case with one item or another, and that's your signal to grab it. While the hummus is a little on the bland side, the smoky baba is nearly perfect. Even better is the beloved Lebanese dish kibbe-- ground meat and pine nuts in a submarine-shaped cracked-wheat crust. Among the signature vegetarians stews, the mélange of eggplant, chick peas, onions, and garlic called mousabaha was new to us, and amazingly delicious.
