The VooDoo Lounge, a swanky music club with room for 1,200 people, is just one of the many entertainment spots at Harrah's Casino in North Kansas City. The VD has brought to the stage diverse national acts such as the Roots and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, popular locals Cherrybomb and Roman Numerals, and celebrity DJs Efran Ramirez (Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite) and AM (who was Nicole Richie's boyfriend at one point in his storied career). The venue's balcony holds plush sofas and couches so that patrons can get their lounge on. The ground floor holds intimate tables for two, a VIP lounge and bars on either side of the floor, where flair bartenders serve up pricey drinks à la Tom Cruise in Cocktail -- which can prove either super impressive or bloody annoying, depending how you roll.
DJs who want to keep food on the table and the needle in the groove know that the casino circuit is where it's at. VooDoo Lounge on Saturday night turns into a grindfest. The venue already has the best lighting and sound in the metro, short of the Sprint Center. For those who prefer not to be the meat in a sweat sandwich, there's a 360-degree balcony on the second floor with an unobstructed view into the cauldron of dancers below. This year, VooDoo booked DJs who tour nationally, including DJ AM, Charles Feelgood, Porsche Surreal, and DJ Shadow with Kid Koala and Cut Chemist. Losing your mind on the dance floor always beats losing your money at the craps table.
Only the largest, most extravagant nightclub/live music venue KC has to offer with occupancy for 1500 for an intimate live music show of any genre, to stand up comedy, to live boxing events, to their cornerstone nightclub Saturdays with local to nationally known DJ's.
