Vine Street Pub, one of the Mountain Sun spots, is now brewing its own beer, which makes it a particularly welcome hangout in Denver’s City Park neighborhood. The three pubs are a front for a microbrewery, and they each maintain a line of about twenty taps for the Sun's own solid, award-winning craft beers. During happy hour, hippies, hikers and lawn-game enthusiasts can indulge in $3 pints of heady IPAs and nitro stouts, supplemented by bar fare that pragmatically provides both bacon and beer-baked tempeh for the conscious eaters who frequent these establishments.
Funny with a purpose, however absurd, is the new frontier in comedy and improv, and Arguments & Grievances is a perfect example of the trend. Kevin O'Brien's Sunday comedy night puts two comics on the podium to argue, point/counterpoint, on inconsequential issues, such as Simpsons vs. Family Guy and Poop vs. Pee. Denver's best comedians come out regularly to argue -- and the results, exacerbated by mock outrage on either side, will have you rolling on the floor. Now, that's funny!See... More »
A brewpub needs to do two things: serve its own food and make its own beer. Since opening in 2008, the Vine Street Pub has done the former very well, offering a mix of healthy fare, Colorado-centered creations and elevated pub food, like its meaty, award-winning wings. But last April, the neighborhood spot also became the primary brewing facility for its owner, the Mountain Sun group, which has three other locations, all in Boulder. Vine Street now brings together its already excellent menu... More »
Though sports bars the world over serve up chicken wings, it's surprisingly difficult to find good ones: If they're not limp and soggy after being tossed in the fryer straight out of the freezer bag, they're smothered in some creative sauce that's no improvement on the original. But at Vine Street Pub, the chicken wings really soar. Large and meaty, the bone-in bits of bird are fried until the skin is crispy and the flesh juicy, then served piping hot, six to an order. Though you can opt for... More »
Vine Street Pub serves good bar food alongside its line of tapped craft beers, but its chicken wings fly right up to great. Fat with tender, moist meat, they're crisped in a fryer until crackly, then slathered in lip-stingingly spicy hot sauce or honeyed barbecue sauce. The steamy wings come by the glistening dozen or half-dozen, piled high on a plate with a ramekin of sharp, chunky blue-cheese dressing and a couple stalks of celery. They're so good it's impossible not to lick the bones... More »
When calling it quits on a romance, it's best to do so in a casual spot -- and the convivial atmosphere at Vine Street Pub, which has the feel of an ongoing college house party, is exactly right. After a rousing round of Cornhole, a couple of small-batch tap brews and an order of nachos, your about-to-be-dumped former darling might even buy your "it's not you, it's me" pitch. In fact, Vine Street's feel-good vibe is so infectious that you may find you're willing to share one last beer... More »
Microbrews aren't cheap, whether on tap or on the shelves. But Vine Street Pub, part of the Boulder-based Mountain Sun string of brewpubs, makes things a little easier on the wallet by charging only $4.20 (yeah, it had the marijuana thing going long before your local dispensary) for a pint as opposed to the usual $4.50 or $5 (an eight-ounce goes for $2.60), a deal that's made even sweeter by the high quality of the beers. And during happy hour (Monday to Friday, 4 to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to... More »
Since so much of Colorado's identity is wrapped up in craft breweries, it only makes sense to close out the summer with a gathering of the tribes at the Vine Street Pub’s Uptown Block Party and Brewers Olympics. The seven-hour event will pit... More »
Summer block parties all require some crucial ingredients: good food, fun games, rockin tunes, delicious beverages and, of course, friendly neighbors. But the difference between most block parties and the one taking place in the 1700 block of... More »
German beer makers like rules. They like them so much that in 1516, the state of Bavaria imposed Reinheitsgebot, the beer-purity law that prohibited using anything but water, barley and hops in brewing the national beverage. Belgians, on the... More »
Over the last few years, East 17th Avenue has seen some remarkable restaurant successes. The street has become one of Denver's food hubs — a restaurant row on par with East Sixth Avenue and Larimer Street. Concepts that failed everywhere else in... More »
What's with cash-only establishments and their insincere apologies? "We don't take credit cards," read the signs. "Sorry for any inconvenience." But is anyone on the other end of the cash register or profit-and-loss statement really sorry? If... More »
