Village Tavern is another corporate chain trying not to look like one. Although the menu is divided between bar-snack finger foods and fancier fare like steak and seafood, the Tavern's wood-fired flavor permeates almost everything. Brunch is big here with the senior set. Judging by the Canadian license plates in the parking lot, it's at least as popular with snowbirds as it is with locals. But given that downtown Boynton Beach has never been hipster central, that's not surprising. You're not coming here to meet a hottie; you're here for beer and sliders. Those - and the margherita pizza - are dependable, cheap, come-back items. Not terribly special but consistent. In keeping with the times, a gluten-free menu and healthy-kids options are available.
