When first setting foot inside Village Coffee Roastery, you might think it looks like a typical contemporary café. There’s art lining the walls, a blue tiled coffee bar, and a pastry display case beside the cash register. But then you’ll notice the giant bean roaster, a Sasa Samiac imported from France, on the south side of the room and realize that this is no ordinary place. The clean, sleek appearance of the otherwise-cozy interior betrays the scientific mindset behind Village Coffee. It’s not clear exactly which scientific techniques are used behind the scenes, but the roasters have, in their words, “combined art with modern science to produce coffee that enhances the natural flavor of the bean.” The result of the small-batch roasting process is a balanced blend that doesn’t need any additional flavorings to be perfectly smooth and sweet. In addition to a stellar cup of Joe, the café serves fresh pastries, breakfast, salads, and sandwiches and has live music on the weekends.

The first thing that you'll notice when you walk in the doors of this sleek coffee shop is the giant bean roaster on the south side of the room, and most of our afternoon visits have been accompanied by the aroma of fresh-roasted coffee. The shop's small-batch roasted beans have an exotic flavor achieved by using a patented scientific method employed by only a handful of roasters in the world. The result is a smooth, balanced blend that doesn't need even a dash of cream or sugar. The only... More »
The best part of waking up is kicking that can of stale-ass "coffee" to the curb and getting a cup of the good stuff. Where do we go? In Scottsdale, you'd best believe it's Village Coffee Roastery, where the coffee isn't just delicious; it's scientific. The fine roasters at VCR have "combined art with modern science to produce coffee that enhances the natural flavor of the bean." We're not sure what scientific techniques they apply to their coffee-brewing process, but we are positive that we... More »
This joint is fresh. The coffee beans are roasted on-site, producing an intense, rich flavor that makes chain-store lattes look (and taste) like instant. There's a large selection of flavors, including macadamia nut and chocolate raspberry, a popular mocha java and a dark roast that's ideal for espresso. Somehow The Village manages to put as much effort into its sandwich menu as it does its coffee. Our top pick is the to-die-for tuna salad, a creamy blend of albacore with roasted pistachios... More »
