This family-run restaurant sits in an unassuming building on busy Coral Way, but has continued to thrive there for years thanks to reliable food and low prices. Inside it's a little dim and no-frills but clean, and though the dining room gets crammed during peak lunch and dinner hours, tables turn up frequently thanks to rapid but solicitous service. Core regulars continue to return because even newcomers are treated like family, and many patrons come to just hang out at the bar. During the day, though, nearby office workers crowd the place seeking the dirt-cheap lunch specials. Those include mounds of hearty fare such as bistec de pollo a la plancha, carne asada, ropa vieja, vaca frita, and more, virtually all accompanied by white rice, black beans, and sweet plantains for just $5.95. Dinnertime prices are equally gentle, with every familiar Cuban entrée and starchy side making an appearance. Combination plates featuring chicharron de pollo ($9.95), picadillo ($7.95), and carne asada ($7.95) all cost less than $10, even weighed down with included sides of white rice and black beans or moros. There are also slightly fancier items for dinner. An extensive selection of seafood dishes tops out in luxury with a bed of yellow rice served with baby lobsters and fried or sweet plantains ($34.95).
