This remote corner of Astoria has clearly been yearning for a wine bar, and Vesta (named after the Roman god of the hearth) fulfills that aspiration, and then some. The wines are well selected and reasonably priced, available by the bottle, glass, or 2.5-ounce taste. The food is better than it needs to be, from the crackling-crust margherita pizza, to the three-meat Neapolitan-style lasagna cooked in its own individual pan and generously proportioned, to the ribollita soup -- which tastes more like a minestrone, but who cares? There are small snacks, too, and a soundtrack heavy on the indie rock. And don't miss "Baby Jesus -- a toffee cake inundated with hot butterscotch.
