This boutique downtown cocktail bar is not for the faint of pocketbook-martinis average around $12-but drinks are expertly crafted with creative twists on classic recipes, like the inventive "Saffron Sour." Bartenders make their own bitters, and have quite the collection to doctor your drink of choice. But be warned: there's precious little vodka here, mostly just boutique gin and whiskey, as in the old days when the art of the cocktail was in full swing. Stainless steel, concrete and subterranean lighting make for a stark, stylish vibe, but with two stiff ones-and they are stiff-and a bite or two off the foodie-friendly menu, you'll warm to it in no time.
Vessel is fantastic. I love the Vessel 75: it's bourbon, Peychaud's bitters, simple syrup, orange zest, and it has maple foam. All of their cocktails are served in antique glassware. It's really kind of golden era cocktails, but the vibe is very modern inside. The upstairs has a great place for having private parties.
Okay, so I work here..... mea culpa. The bar truly is magnificent, however, and our cocktails have been lauded for years now. Those in the know go out of their way to come sit at our bar, one of the few cocktail lounges in our city that can claim that.
