Friendly, gringo-style Mexican restaurants with large neighborhood followings. The "White Death" frozen margarita and the carnitas picante lure customers from beyond Moon Valley.
For as storied and well-regarded as Valle Luna is, I've never had a really good meal there. This location is ALWAYS packed, so plan on dropping someone at the door to get you on the waiting list while you circle the woefully-undersized lot a dozen times looking for a space to open up. Once seated, you're presented with chips that always taste on the brink of staleness, and the rest of the food isn't very memorable. It's not bad, per se, but I certainly haven't had anything there worthy of the hype. There's equally good or better Mexican food all over the Valley.
I go here for the pedazos.. Think like a folded quesadilla and then load it with spicy chicken guisado (spicy shredded chicken) Shredded beef, green chili and red chili then they serve it with this amazing Molina ground relish that is jalapenos, green onion and a pinch of diablo to make ya sweat.. mmmm! good with margaritas too!
