V Garden's back room is tricked out to party, wood paneling giving way to vivid yellow walls, octagonal lights with painted scenes and red tassels, even a mirror ball. It's packed, night after night, with big families eating from the set menus. Do not even attempt to dine here unless you have six or more people. For one, you won't be able to order up lots of creatures from the tanks-steamed tilapia with ginger and green onions, salt-and-pepper prawns, spicy crab. While the Cantonese menu is hit or miss, it's strongest in the seafood sections, as well as hot pots like the sumptuous preserved vegetable with pork belly. Best yet, by ordering in bulk you won't pay more than $25 a person.
