Description

Considered the first upscale Mexico City-style taquería, this is the original location of the local chain. Owners Markus Pineyro and John E. Tuma opened it in 2007. Since then, they have branched all over Dallas. Yet there's nothing like the first Urban Taco. Its design is simply appointed in a style that melds traditional Mexican décor with modern flare -- native folk art shares space with imported Mexican furniture, sleek lines and color everywhere. Because of this, menu items -- everything from carnitas D.F. taco and quesadilla de queso Oaxaca to a chicken tinga torta -- are more expensive than the average taco shop's fare. What you won't find here is anything associated with Tex-Mex (i.e., no orange-dyed cheese).

    Review: Urban Taco

    | Thu, January 03, 2008

My favorite dining companion put it this way: Urban Taco sounds like something you'd order from the J. Peterman catalog. He's onto something. Think cute but functional. Trendy but not pushy. A little on the pricey side. But you want it anyway. U... More »

Follow them on twitter at @UrbanTaco. Great deals for followers. Tuesday: 1/2 priced margs all night Thursday: 1/2 priced mojitos, live music 2x1 specials during sports games. Can order combos or a la carte. Get the salsa trio, they have about 12 different salsas you can choose from.
