Uptown Brothers Brewing Company opened in May 2010 with an odd concept: It was a brewery that didn't plan on making its own beer for several years. But while that seemed strange, the joint quickly found a spot in the heart of craft-beer lovers, since it provides a whopping 32 beers on tap and more than sixty in bottles, many of them hard-to-find selections. Beer isn't the only draw here, though: Uptown Brothers has become a cool destination on a somewhat downtrodden stretch of East Colfax, with twenty massive TVs showing sporting events, live music booked on the weekends, and a kitchen turning out fried chicken, catfish po'boys and chicken mac-n-cheese. Uptown also features numerous happy-hour food and drink specials, like Medicinal Mondays, Two-For-Tuesdays and Taco Thursdays. Uptown plans to brew its own beer eventually, but until then, it's still a good hangout.
