Description

West Village regulars might have a difficult time adjusting to Union Bear, a bar and restaurant located in the Uptown basement space formerly occupied by the sleek ultra-lounge Nikita. The atmosphere at Union Bear is warm, with candlelight and wire deer head sculptures hanging on raw wooden walls. You can get a good pizza, but a better reason to go to Union Bear is for one of the best beer menus in town – the entirety of which is offered on tap for $5. Among the selection are rotator taps that feature small-batch beers, brewed in-house by local homebrewers.

But brewing a new offering every week, this self-proclaimed "nanobrewery" makes up for its small output with creativity, offering amateur brewers the chance to collaborate on experimental batches. And even if one of them turns out to be a dud, there are always the... More »
