Greek restaurants are always a safe bet when it comes to seafood, and Uncle Nick’s Greek Cuisine is no different. The second location of such a name--the first is found in Hell’s Kitchen--the Uncle Nick’s in Chelsea has particularly good octopus, which is charred to create a nice contrast to the usually rubbery texture. There are decent gyros, plenty of cheese and olives, and the service matches the blue, white, and candlelit decor in its typically Greek over-attentiveness. The vegetarian options, especially the mousaka, are pretty good, but it's really the extensive list of reasonably priced fish (red snapper, flounder, porgi, and swordfish, among many more) that makes this out-of-the-way spot worth the trek. --Shane Barnes
Where's the cheapest place in town to get great seafood? A Greek restaurant of course, and none better in this regard than Uncle Nick's, especially the Chelsea branch, where the food tastes marginally better than at the older Hell's Kitchen evocation. Anything octopus is advised--the charred tentacles making a nice contrast to the rubbery softness inside. Flounder and swordfish are also done by the same cooking method with a special flair. 382 Eighth Avenue, 212-609-0500 More »
