We once admonished the Spotted Pig for not being a real gastropub, a breed of English bar that features the usual pub-grub made with superior ingredients. But this definition is a perfect fit for Ulysses, a sprawling barroom near Wall Street-the name is a reference to both Joyce and Homer-that slings excellent burgers, lobster rolls, fish and chips using fresh cod, and pristine raw shellfish. There's a shepherd's pie and chicken potpie, but you may opt instead for satays with peanut sauce, or a Greek salad in which the seeds have been removed from the cucumbers, cooking-school style.
