Located in a nondescript storefront pressed up tight against Broadway for the past thirty years, surrounded by nothing in particular, Twin Dragon is a restaurant you either love or have never heard of. It's an old Volvo kept running by unconditional love and duct tape, the ABBA record you listen to when no one else is home, the place you go when you want dependable Cantonese-Szechuan cuisine served in a tiki bar atmosphere. And when you want perfect duck -- the Chinese have forgotten more about the art of cooking duck than Michelin's finest ever knew.

I have been to Twin Dragon many times in the last 6 years, and my experience has never been lacking. The service, food, atmosphere and cleanliness are all top quality, and I have never had a bad experience there. Many Asian restaurants in Denver are very similar in that there is little change to quality of food, prices, and menu between them. Twin Dragon is most definitely an exception to this rule. You can immediately see the difference in the quality of produce in the food. The colors are still vibrant, the sauces light but delicious, and there is not the standard washing out of flavors with over-use of soy sauce and the like. You can taste the subtle but recognizable flavors of fresh ginger, rice wine, and etc. in the food. The service is exceptional. The staff is extremely clean and detail oriented, and you will never find a bottle of soy sauce not completely filled and wiped, when they take your dish after the meal they will clean your table and top off all drinks, and there is no rush for you to leave. Even the salt shakers, check holders, and similar items are cleaned meticulously. The Atmoshpere is most certainly Asian and done well. The tables are large and seats comfortable. In every town there are always a handful of restaurants that stand above others within their respective cuisines. Twin Dragon is one of these restaurants. The prices match most Asian restaurants with lunch between $6.50 and $8.50 and Dinner from $7.50 - $12.50, but this is where many of the similarities end. I will definitely go back.
This is your father's bad toupee. It's a leisure suit, lovingly tended and preserved and worn regularly by a guy who still thinks he looks good. It's an old Volvo kept running by unconditional love and duct tape, the ABBA record you listen to... More »
Just because you're not part of the problem doesn't mean you're part of the solution. I've become increasingly tired of Chinese restaurants claiming some sort of special capacity for greatness simply because they aren't part of a chain. Most... More »

We all remember our first underage drink, and for a lot of us, it was probably cadged from an understanding (or careless) bartender at a Chinese restaurant. At Twin Dragon -- where we're sure they carefully check every ID -- you can get a fresh taste of those illicit thrills as an adult. The specialty-drink menu features Fog Cutters, Zombies and rum-heavy Scorpion bowls, but most important, it has Mai Tais -- all syrupy-sweet with fruit juice, garnished with neon-red cherries and limp orange... You might see triple dragons if you imbibe too many drinks at this longtime Denver institution, but the next time you have a hankering for Chinese, what's the harm of washing down that lo mein with a Zombie or two? Since 1976, Twin Dragon -- an otherwise tasteful place -- has been trotting out exotic drinks in the most hilarious vessels. The Zombie, a combination of two kinds of rum, triple sec and fruit juices, comes in a skull; the Scorpion, a deadly mix of Amaretto, orgeat, triple sec,... More »
