Executive chef Julian Greaves, formerly of Sol Kitchen, has put together a menu of small plates, bar food, comfort food, and bistro classics that pairs exquisitely with the excellent list of 50-plus, personality-forward craft beers. With input from a quartet of restaurant-savvy owners (Rodney Mayo and Scott Freilich, who own Dada, the Dubliner, and Howley's Diner; Butch Johnson from 32 East next door; and Dave Robinson of Delux nightclub), he's created dishes as aromatic, intense, and highly seasoned as these beautiful beers, matching them stride for stride with nightly specials (seared black cod, pork tenderloin), small plates (fish tacos, Indian spiced lamb chops, fish and chips), and chef's favorites (foie gras with bread pudding, pad Thai). Go early or midweek if you want time and space to eat and explore the beer list at leisure: Weekends are a madhouse.

Until I started writing about beer a couple of years ago, the only reds I'd had were hypersweet lambics and Killian's from the '90s, the Coors-bought lager made red by caramelized, malted barley. I wa... More »

A well-designed restaurant should mean something to everyone who eats there, and that's just what happens at Tryst. The bistro and bar is laid out as mercurially as its menu of eclectic small plates, inexpensive wines, and intriguing craft beer. Inside, the space runs from cool and comforting to chic and sultry. The winding, dark-wood bar glows with candlelight, slipping from the hip checkered foyer to the rustic brick walls in back. There, if you're lucky, you can dine at an ornate marble... More »
Ben Franklin said: "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." If so, God's love foams eternal from the brimming imaginations of longtime South Florida restaurateurs Rodney Mayo and Scott Frielich. At their new Tryst, they've teamed up with next-door neighbors from 32 East and Delux to debut a beer-centric bistro, adding hops to their trademark hip. Brick walls, wide-plank wood floors, and a patio built around an ancient tree make a cozy backdrop for a gargantuan list of... More »
