Description

This is the place where all Dallas rock music fans have been at one time in their lives. Visiting Trees is like a rite-of-passage for area high-school seniors, who have assured their parents that they're safe and sound at a friend's house. It's a place with great history and legend, like Kurt Cobain's infamous fight with a bouncer, and many ear-splitting performances from The Flaming Lips. In recent years Trees shut down and reopened with the help of new management. A fresh coat of paint and some remodeling around the bar has the once ramshackle operation looking as sleek as any ultra-lounge in town. A trip to Trees is a history lesson--plus you get to hear some great local and national bands.

    Awesome sound for one. Second, great national acts that shouldn't be playing in a bar setting - so it's more intimate. Third, great local acts that shouldn't be missed and a friendly staff and bartenders.

    My favorite music venue when I was a squirrely punk from Plano - caught so many shows here I lost count. Now back open (and with better bathrooms!) and putting out great lineups each week.

    This veteran Deep Ellum outpost has been the site of many shows that elicit an "I was there, man." But since reopening three years ago, they've stepped their game way up and started pulling in acts beyond the typical Trees metal/punk/rock fare, including a healthy new roster of hip-hop. Makes sense: All those acts sound great pumped out of Trees' top-notch sound system, but that volume only serves as a reminder that Trees started out a rock club and will die a rock club. More »

Since that time, Trees has undergone a significant makeover, classing up the joint (oooh, a velvet curtain!) while making it more fan-friendly in the process.
