A gourmet deli with all the trappings - gleaming display cases filled with sweets and salads, comfy contemporary booths, and a menu stocked with Reubens, meat-loaf melts, knockwurst on rye, smoked whitefish, and baked salmon on a bagel. Great matzo ball soup and a host of Eastern European specialties like stuffed cabbage, crunchy potato latkes, and cheese blintzes. Desserts number in the teens.
You can scorn Toojay's for being a chain. You can forswear it for trying too hard, for having a huge menu with every type of Eastern European delicacy imaginable. You can even boycott it for its non-delilike name. Go ahead. That just leaves more for us. And we not only don't argue with the quality of Toojay's delicatessen, we laud it.
