Description

On the site of the previous Xelaju, Tierras also enjoys the distinction of being the only Guatemalan restaurant in town. Which is a shame, because the cuisine is among the world's most interesting. So skip the Salvadoran side of the menu, and head for revolcado, a hearty stew of pork chunks and cow hearts, neatly uniting two major recipes popular in Guatemala. The broth is brown and dense and spectacularly savory. In a lighter vein, caldo de camarones is a good collection of medium-size, head-on shrimp in a sprightly chowder flavored with the leaves and shoots of the pito tree, known as chipilin and possessing reputed soporific properties. Google it. We're woozy already!

Was expecting alot of this restaurant as I went with my family. Unfortunately received poor service. Not a welcome but rather a "are you going to eat or not" from the worker. That gave us a first negative impression. The next was that they have the restroom too close to the diner room and if it is not well sanitized it goes in to the eating area. So the unpleasent smell was also not good.

We even went far as giving the restaurant a try. The food was not satisfying. The soup the served was watery and one of my guest found a rare item in her soup. When asked the server what it was we were given a negative response such as pork.

Sorry but based on other restaurants I've visited this will get a 0 rating from due to the service and food quality.

I do have to say the owner was willing not to charge us and we abandoned the food. I believe there is a Popeye near this restaurant so we went there after as we were very hungry.

Formerly known as Xelaju, Tierras Centro Americanas is now our soul purveyor of Guatemalan fare, and we can think of no better representation than salpicon, a minced-beef salad flavored with mint, onion, and sour orange.
