At this self-described "resto-bar," there's outdoor seating on the patio, a cozy bar area with stylish mood lighting, and a sleek dining room outfitted with red leather chairs. It's an appealing atmosphere on weekend nights, when the place is abuzz with customers. While the Latin-themed menu tries too hard, a few offerings are truly solid. Guacammus (a creamy blend of lime-tinged guacamole and garlicky hummus) is a tasty novelty, and the chicken flautas are crisp, with moist filling seasoned with chipotle and cinnamon. If you're in the mood for something sweet, skip dessert and save room for fruit-flavored mojitos, margaritas, and martinis.

"Urban. Latin. Sexy. Chill." That caught my eye when I checked out the online menu for Ticoz, a self-described "resto-bar" that opened last month on Seventh Street, just north of Camelback, in the same strip that houses tiki treasure trove... More »
We spend all week eating yogurt and fruit for breakfast so that when the weekend rolls around, a bit of indulgence can be forgiven. When we're craving a hearty, stick-to-your-ribs morning meal with a Latin twist, Ticoz's weekend brunch is the only thing that satisfies. This chic, trendy lounge transforms into a classy mid-morning venue to linger over a rich brunch. The 3 Egg Gringo Breakfast, frittata, or French toast sticks should be enough to satisfy the breakfast purists. For the rest of... More »
Wine-lovers are the first to line up for good sangria, but getting a beer drinker to try the fruity wine cocktail is like getting a child to eat foie gras instead of chicken strips. That's why we're sold on Ticoz's passion fruit sangria. Everyone we've cajoled into drinking the stuff -- from our beer-swilling husbands to Harley-riding, whiskey-drinking Cousin Lou -- can't get enough. Cloudy magenta in color, Ticoz's red sangria is made with Oak Creek Cabernet and a splash of real... More »
This colorful hotspot -- popular both with stylin' gay guys and ladies who lush -- does a great job with every drink on the menu. Lychee mojito? Guavatini? Trust us: You can't go wrong. But our quaff of choice has become Ticoz's passion fruit sangria. Think Cabernet, passion fruit, pineapple, and orange, all in a lightly iced blend. Yum! And for just $7, we guarantee you're going to want more than one glass. More »
At first, we must admit, it tasted faintly of lip gloss, a blast back to the eighth grade. But as we munched the lightly dressed shredded cabbage that accompanies many dishes at Ticoz -- a new restaurant just north of Camelback Road -- the slightly sweet and sour flavor of passion fruit grew on us. Passion fruit is just one of the unusual flavors (cinnamon's another -- not so unusual on its own, but the chefs implement it creatively) you'll find in your food at Ticoz. Now we find oursel... Two words: vegan tamales. They are to die for! And you cannot go to Ticoz without trying one of their delicious mojitos or a glass of sangria (I love the red). This hip little joint always has fun, energetic staff that keep you entertained while grabbing dinner or just drinks.
