They watch football here, not the pigskin kind but the no-hands kind, a/k/a. soccer, footie or whatever you want to call it. On any random game day you can expect a crowd of scruffy Brooklynites and a handful of Brits. This is a new kind of sports bar, a sophisticated one short on Budweiser signs and high on understated vintage charm. Even the TVs, 50-inch HD monsters, are tastefully recessed into the wood-paneled walls. Belly up to the long bar, made from oak salvaged from a Massachusetts dairy farm, and order one of the six beers on tap or one of the many bottles or cans, ranging from Pork Slap to Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale. There are other drinking options as well: a small selection of reds and whites by the glass from soccer-mad countries like Argentina and Portugal, plus plenty of the hard stuff, a wide variety of Scotch and bourbon and tequila. As befitting a bar that broadcasts most of its games from Europe, there are plenty of breakfast options and sandwiches to soak up the early morning booze.—Keith Wagstaff
