It's freakin' beer mania here in St. Louis this week! Deschutes Brewery is in town from Portland, Oregon, and they're partnering with various bars and restaurants in town to bring you a plethora of be... More »
Given Gut Check's never-ending quest for obsession with great wine values, we figured it'd be a good idea to check in from time to time with local merchants. They pick a wine they consider to be an ex... More »

Gut Check loves us some wine. We want a bottle with bang and a bang for our buck, so every week we will visit a local wine shop, where an expert will recommend a good-value wine priced under $15. We'l... More »
Awesome place to sample both wine and cheese. Their prices aren't too bad and they have good selection of both.
They have the best wine accessories! I love finding gifts here - from unique wine openers to stoppers to charms - for birthdays, mothers day, Christmas, etc!
What's not to love about the liquor selection at the Wine & Cheese Place's flagship location? The numbers themselves are impressive: 252 liqueurs, 215 single-malt scotches, 171 vodkas, 102 American whiskies, 102 tequilas, 75 rums, 50 blended scotch whiskies and 42 gins. Plus, there are dozens of other bottles that don't fit into any of those categories, and new offerings arrive all of the time. Prices are excellent, too, and the service, led by Paul Hayden, is informed and friendly. A... More »
Don't be fooled by the fancy name. There's enough booze at the Clayton outpost of local chain the Wine & Cheese Place to stock the green room at a Guns N' Roses reunion tour. While the vast wine selection and cheese counter are the flagship attractions, the liquor aisle is a sight to behold, particularly for those in search of exotic or top-shelf spirits. The W&CP stocks everything from the finest single-malt scotches to five different types of absinthe (including airline-size... More »
In belt-tightening times, fine cheese might not be at the top of the average shopper's list, but for those of us who don't have room in the fridge for Kraft singles, great cheese is an affordable luxury. And when we shop for cheese, we want the assistance of a staff that knows the way around its own cheese counter. So off we hie to the Wine & Cheese Place, where we start off by forgetting the name of one of the cheeses we're looking to buy. It's a Swiss cheese (without holes), and you... More »
It's really not just the Wine & Cheese Place. Properly labeled, this store is the Wine & Cheese & Pasta & Glassware & Crackers & Spreads & Olive Oil & Nuts & Gourmet Goodies & Chocolate & Liquor & Lots of Fancy Beers Place. It's along the lines of what we think of when we think "gift shop for our birthday present" or maybe "retail heaven"--but maybe that's just us. They've got 1,600 wines and 250 cheeses, so we suppose they're highlighting the obvious (though we feel the need to add, for... More »
