Description

Take a stroll among the many watering holes in Downtown Fullerton on a Friday night and you'll be hard-pressed to find a bar with more rock & roll style than the Slidebar Cafe. Yes, it features two rooms where suicide-girl style bartendresses serve up cocktails along with imported and domestic draft beer. This is also one of the few downtown establishments presenting top-notch local and national rock acts of the punk, ska and hardcore variety. The walls of the bar are decked out with autographed rock memorabilia and lined with flat screen TVs.Be sure to check out the halls lined with pics taken by rock photographer Lisa Johnson. Images include No Doubt's Gwen Stefani with Warren Fitzgerald of the Vandals. Finer pints of beer, including Shock Top and Newcastle, cost $6, with lower-shelf fare such as Bud Light running $5. Happy hour is every day 3 p.m.-6 p.m. except Saturday. Sunday happy hour is 3 p.m.-9 p.m. and features half off draft beers and well drinks.

  • 2008 | Best Food at a Bar

If we told you that local-OC-boy-made-good/Lit guitarist Jeremy Popoff opened up a rock & roll bar and restaurant in Fullerton, you'd think, "That sounds like a cool place to get hammered." And you'd be right. But what if we told you that the food they serve (around $15-$20 per person) is unequivocally awesome Juicy buffalo burgers twice as buttery as beef. Meat loaf to rival your mom's. A deep-fried chocolate cake topped with ice cream called the Whammy Bar. All... More »

    The Darlings

    | Thu, May 10, 2012

The Darlings are a punk band with an anthemic sound. Choruses of 'whoas' ripple between palm muted guitars. And though their vocals are melodic, they're not a bunch of punk rock pussies a la Good Charlotte. Fri., May 11, 9 p.m., 2012 More »

Countless Thousands guitarist Danger Van Gorder calls the sound "enthusiastic rock," an aesthetic created in response to all those bored-looking rock-scene kids playing SoCal stages around his native Garden Grove up to the Sunset Strip near where ... More »

Since the '80s gothic band Gene Loves Gezebel split into two bands, both of whom use the same name, we can't be 100 percent sure which one is performing at Slidebar. What we do know is that the synthy group probably served as a boon to eyeliner ma... More »

    Death By Stereo

    | Thu, March 08, 2012

With vocalist Efrem Schulz's diverse hardcore growl, which switches occasionally to a Davey Havok wail, Death by Stereo is so much more than a band with a name lifted from an 80s movie. They've been playing since 1996 and have six albums to their ... More »

All of this thanks to a cook named Walter, who is presumably unaware he's cooking for a bunch of rowdy drunks. But rock on, Walter! Rock on!
