Although it now has locations in Woodland Hills and Duarte, The Slaw Dogs first opened in Pasadena, on the vast strip of North Lake Ave. that mostly houses unremarkable fast food joints. With truffle fries, a mac-n-cheese dog, a veggie "Soy Bomb" and hot dogs topped with sauerkraut -- or satay dressing -- the place reinvented hot dogs for the neighborhood. You can build your own -- or go rouge and get a salad or even a kimchi hamburger. —Amy Scattergood
