The Shamrock Pub isn't fancy. It's not trying to impress anyone. But it's the kind of place where you'll find regulars ready to give you an oral history lesson on the building, the bar, and hell, life, if you're ready to listen. Located at the intersection of Convent and South 7th, the brick building was the first convent built west of the Mississippi in the late 1890's. It later functioned as a bottling plant, and now houses a bar and the accompanying liquor store next door. How fitting for a former convent! Tip your hat to the urn above the bar: That's the final resting place of the beloved, and only partially identified "Epps," who wasn't Irish, but apparently drank like a good Irishman should.
