The Sail Inn may be known for its devotion to jam bands and generally hippie-friendly vibe, but recent years have seen the selection of music there expand. Any given night you may find DJs rocking beats, indie rockers doing their thing, or any of the characteristically "love, peace, and chicken grease" type acts. The Sail Inn features two stages, one indoors and one outdoors, so multi-band festivals fly by without pauses for set up time. The bar is fully stocked with beers and mixed drink ingredients, making the Sail a great place to catch a gig.

  • 2011 | Best Rock Club

We really love The Sail Inn. It's got a great location, just off Mill. Oh, and friendly bouncers, stiff drinks, and, of course, great bands. Though the place skews a little hippie, between the indoor and outdoor stages they book just about... More >

  • 2010 | Best Rock Club

When a new Long Wong's and the old Sail Inn reopened within months of each other in Tempe, it was the more famous wing-serving club that got all the ink. But thus far, it's Sail Inn that has had a real impact on the city's live music scene. The... More >

  • 2010 | Best Club Show

The large outdoor stage at the new and improved Sail Inn in Tempe was perfect for Tucson's Sergio Mendoza y la Orkesta — not just because a big crowd turned up for his Saturday show in March, but because a large stage is needed to contain the... More >

  • 2009 | Best Comeback

We've always wondered: Where do bars and clubs go when they die (i.e., close)? Whisked away to the nightspot great beyond after falling to a wrecking ball, perhaps, never to return (like Tempe's Long Wong's)? Or maybe reincarnation into a... More >

  • 2005 | BEST DEADHEAD BAR

One of the last surviving old Tempe bars, the Sail Inn regularly hosts Grateful Dead cover bands like The Noodles and Xtra Ticket. Both bands kick out mind-reeling jams, much to the delight of Deadheads who come from miles around and are still... More >
