Description

You always wanted to drink a hand-dipped purple milkshake. At The Purple Cow, you can do just that. Founded in 1989 in Little Rock, Arkansas, by chef Paul Bash and Ed Moore, there are three Dallas-area outposts that sell not only the purple milkshake but also classic Southern and general American favorites. There are burgers like the popular Hot Mama (hot jack cheese, jalapeños, salsa and chipotle mayo. Hot dogs like the Chicago Super Dog are also big sellers. The entrée list is short but is sure to please with the inclusion of chicken-fried steak and a tilapia platter. However, the real clientele are children. The Purple Cow is overrun with kids and their parents, the latter quietly sipping on adult milkshakes, including the moo jito.

    Maybe this '50s soda fountain-diner-burger joint with a purple train chugging along the ceiling with a preening purple cow in a freight car is a little much for those of us who act 6 but aren't. Yet this place is clean and bright, the food is good, and kids love it. Plus, they'll spike your milkshake with hooch, so you'll love it too.     Would it kill you to eat a little something, or do you enjoy breaking your mother's heart? If that sounds familiar, you'll be right at home at Kenny & Ziggy's, where authentic New York deli food is done up right. Dig into a gargantuan Reuben or corned beef sandwich. Get a bagel topped with any of the stunning smoked fish, with perhaps a side of matzoh ball soup. The enormous desserts are a must-try, especially the golf ball-size macaroons, colossal layer cakes, or an éclair that outweighs that barking Dachshund that keeps you up at night.

    You name it, it is good at Kenny and Ziggy's. Ziggy is a one of a kind. Monster sandwiches, great breakfast, great stuff.
