Houston's first full-scale craft beer bar is still its most respected, if a little worn around the edges from years of cask-tappings and vertical tastings. And though it's greatly expanded from its initial days as a beer bar tucked into a converted neighborhood gas station — with a big rear patio and equally big parking lot across the street — Petrol is still as friendly and cozy as ever. Grab a beer from the constantly changing selection of eccentrics and solid favorites, and the kitchen is back open after renovations.
I love the ambiance of this place! The beer selection is always full of diverse choices of craft selection, the food is stellar, and the staff are helpful and friendly. It is a great place to get a beer and meet with some friends in a casual setting.

Houston's oldest and best craft beer bar is still going strong since opening in 2007, thanks to the guidance of beer god Ben Fullelove. Of the 30-odd taps that Fullelove has in the bar, all are interesting and dynamic beer selections, whether it be a fruity Dogfish Head Festina Pêche or a hop-heavy Stone Ruination IPA. Petrol also hosts regular cask-tappings and other assorted events for true beer geeks, who keep the bar busy night and day. More »

Don't let the name fool you: The Petrol Station serves much more than just coffee. And although you can get a fine cuppa here, the beer selection is what makes the Petrol Station special. You won't find Bud Light, but you will find a limited yet remarkable selection of cask ales and locally brewed beers. And they know their stuff, too: On a recent visit, the knowledgeable bartender responded to a request for a "fiercely hoppy beer" with a freshly drawn pint of fragrant and snappy Avery... More »
